Overview: The Infectious Disease or HIV Specialist for Corizon, provides comprehensive care to the approximately two hundred sixty HIV positive males who are housed at Limestone Correctional Facility in Harvest, Alabama. This facility is located just outside of Huntsville, Al. This care includes acute complaints and comprehensive HIV management including managing antiretroviral therapy as indicated. The patients are typically seen every ninety days and may be seen more often as clinically necessary. This physician also manages the HIV patients at Limestone when they are admitted to the prison infirmary with problems that can be managed at the prison.
The Infectious Disease Specialist also serves the same function for the approximately twenty-five HIV positive females that are housed at Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka, Alabama which is just outside of Montgomery, Al. This is accomplished by the physician traveling one day per month to Tutwiler to see the female HIV patients who are in state custody.
The Infectious Disease Specialist also manages the treatment of Hepatitis C patients. One of the more important functions of this role is to manage the selection process of patients who will be treated with combination therapy for Hepatitis C infection. He/ she will also need to review lab work for those who are on treatment to monitor and act upon adverse events related to this treatment.
Graduate from Medical school, completed an Internal Medicine Residence or Equivalent. An Infectious Disease fellowship is desirable. Specialty training in HIV treatment and experience with Hepatitis C treatment are acceptable as well.
