Overview:

Under general direction, reviews and responds to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests, paid and unpaid leaves. Administers the short and long term disability programs as well as administers the direct billing to employees while on leave.

1. Receives and reviews FMLA requests for employees; obtains completed request forms, physician certification or re-certification forms, and return to work releases; determines employee qualification status; corresponds with requestors and supervisors and maintains contact throughout the process; serves as the point of contact for all FMLA questions; prepares and maintains a tracking system for the status of FMLA requests and approvals and denials; ensures highly confidential files are maintained in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations; researches statistical information to prepare reports throughout the year.
2. Advises employees, regarding the short term and long term disability processes if eligible; maintains communications with appropriate parties until short term and/or long term disability is approved or disapproved; prepares related paperwork for insurance carriers. Notifies payroll of disability payments to be paid and integrated Paid Time Off “PTO” / Extended Sick Leave “ESL” time appropriately.
3. Serves as the point of contact for employees maintaining their benefits during a leave; processes the payments received from employees; notifying payroll; finance and keeping a record of the balances owed and paid by employee.
4. Gathers information and produces monthly and quarterly reports.
5. Processes tuition reimbursement requests.
6. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, a Bachelor’s degree in business administration preferred

- Experience: 3-5 years in employee benefits in a corporate setting

- Knowledge of FMLA, COBRA and HIPAA laws

- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office, Excel and Word

- Experience with HRIS platforms, preferably PeopleSoft (including reporting)

- Strong interpersonal/human relations skills

- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Report preparation skills

- Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality

- Ability to meet deadlines and give attention to details and accuracy
